Who We Are


Glen Agricultural Training Institute, a public institution under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, aligns with the South African Qualification Authority's National Qualification Framework.

This institute stands as a beacon of excellence in agricultural training, catering to the Free State Province, as well as a diverse range of national and international students.

1. When do applications open and what is the deadline for returning completed applications?

Every year applications season start at the beginning of June and close at the end of November.

2. How many points do I need to qualify for acceptance and what high school subjects are required?

The College requires a total rating of 22 points (M-score) from the 6 passed subjects. Furthermore, the College requires a minimum of 50% in the language of teaching and learning (English), an achievement rating of level 3 (40 – 49%) in two recognized NSC 20 credit subjects and an achievement rating of level 4 (50 – 59%) in two other NSC 20 credits subjects (which excludes Life Orientation).

3. Do you do late and walk-in applications?

Every year at the beginning of the application season the college considers applications from matriculants of that year as they apply with their June/September results and those already in possession of the matric results. The College also consider new applicants at the beginning on the year depending on the available space for the new student intake.

4. How much is the registration fee and can one pay the balance in instalments?

The registrations fee which includes the Glen Student Trust Fund (GSTF) is stipulated clearly in the application form and must be paid after receiving an acceptance letter and before coming to the College for registration. The balance of the annual fees can be settled monthly/quarterly.

5. Is there a bursary scheme in the college, if so who qualifies?

The College itself does not have a bursary scheme but there are bursaries available such as the one from the National Skills Fund (NSF) that is administered through the Department of Agriculture Land Reform and Rural Development for qualifying students. However, students must first register before being eligible to apply for the NSF bursary. There is also an Agriseta bursary that is available to students after being a registered student.

6. If accepted do I stay full-time at the college or can I commute/daily to attend classes and practicals?

The College has bodying and lodging facilities for all registered students and students do not necessarily have to travel daily but in exceptional cases where a student prefers not to use accommodation and meal facilities of the college such a student may commute daily at own cost and bearing the responsibility of attending practicals after hours.

7. Is there transport available to go to town to attend to urgent needs and errands?

The College makes available a student bus to transport students to do their monthly groceries. Standard Operating Procedures are in place to attend to medical emergencies. All other transport needs are at own cost and time.

8. Are there extra-mural activities that students participate in?

The College has recreational activities such as Choral Music, Netball, Soccer, Rugby and other peripheral sporting codes like tennis, chess. The College has in-door and outdoor gym facilities.

9. If accepted when must one come to the college for registration, induction and commencement of classes?

An acceptance letter from the College will stipulate clearly the date of arrival for new students and what they need to bring with e.g bedding, linen, electrical appliances etc.
